Cheers Singles History CHEERS is social club for seniors living in the Sun Lakes, Sunbird, Springfield and Solera communities. Named after the famous TV show where “everybody knows your name,” our cast of characters is also known for their ability to enjoy life and make everyone feel like family. Our history began in the spring of 1999 with a single newspaper ad inviting all singles to join together as the Iron/Oaks Solos. The name was soon changed to Cheers to include the other communities. The group has grown to 200 plus members who work together – without officers or formalities – to plan and spread the word about our activities. Due to the group’s rapid growth, an Advisory Committee was formed in 2004 consisting of 11 active members. These individuals commit their time to keeping things interesting and flowing smoothly. Activities include a weekly happy hour social, card groups, fine dining, wine tastings, a book club, a travel group, a discussion group, a weekly movie group and a birthday party for members every three months. Some of our members go to the dances at the various clubhouses on weekends and form a table. We are always open to new activities, new adventures and new members! As many of us have experienced lifestyle changes, we found a need to come together at this time in our lives and form new connections. Whether you have lived independently for years or are new to the single life, Cheers provides an open, safe and welcoming environment to share common interests. There is something for everyone here and we want everyone to participate at their own comfort level. |
